Brits in banking ''earn more than those in admin''
Last year, Britons working within the financial services sector fared better in terms of pay than their counterparts in other industries, according to new research.
The latest Economic and Labour Market Review from the Office for National Statistics revealed that the average earnings of degree-holders with
banking jobs in London and elsewhere in the UK was £37,300.
It called the sector "predominantly male", while noting that in the largely female public administration, education and health field the typical worker made £27,600 during 2010.
Further findings included that almost one in two male graduates during this time had a degree in a business, finance, science or engineering course, compared to one in five female university leavers.
One company that has been highlighted as being female-friendly is professional services company PricewaterhouseCoopers, which was recently named in Opportunity Now's Top 50 Employers for Women list.
Helen Wells, director of Opportunity Now, said: "I firmly believe that creating workplaces which tap into the talents of both men and women is vital for competitive advantage."
