Will more banking jobs in Singapore be made as city moves ahead of "chasing pack"?

Singapore is quickly emerging as a global leading financial centre, it has been suggested.

In a Financial Times article, Michael Skapinker reports on comments from an unnamed asset manager in New York who claims that while the American city, Hong Kong and London "are moving ahead of the chasing pack", they are being joined by Singapore.

Mr Skapinker adds the city-state has ambitions to be a world-leading finance hub by 2020, something that may interest those seeking finance jobs in Singapore, although it is thought English common law could play a vital role in this being achieved.

Such comments come as senior minister Goh Chok Tong recently claimed at a Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild event that as gross domestic product in the city-state is set to rise by between three and five per cent each year over the next decade, some 50,000 jobs - including numerous positions in finance - are to be created.ADNFCR-2929-ID-800496455-ADNFCR
