Brits with finance jobs in Hong Kong can celebrate autumn in style

In the UK, the onset of autumn is rarely a cause for celebration as Britons mourn the loss of hot sunny days, but things are different overseas.

Indeed, those with finance jobs in Hong Kong can see in the season in style by taking in the Mid-Autumn Festival in Victoria Peak at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

According to What's On When, when the moon is "full and bright" on September 22nd, locals celebrate by watching as thousands of traditional paper lanterns are released into the night sky.

In addition to marking the harvest season, the festival also commemorates China's 14th-century revolt against Mongolian occupation.

Papers calling for an uprising were hidden in cakes and today yuek beng - or moon cakes - are enjoyed in honour of these events.

Britons living and working in Hong Kong also get to celebrate the special administrative region of China's equivalent of Bonfire Night a month early.

The National Day Fireworks Display is set to light up the sky over Victoria Harbour on October 1st this year.
