Santander ''set to create compliance jobs in London''

Santander is believed to be creating hundreds of new posts throughout its UK arm, albeit not as many as earlier reports suggested.

Careers writer Sheila Prophet wrote last week in the Mirror that the Spanish banking firm is looking for graduates to take up compliance jobs in London, along with roles in its corporate banking and HR departments and local branches.

The Financial Times later reported that in an effort to expand its UK operation, Santander was planning to create 6,000 new positions.

However, a source for the financial services provider told City Wire that the number of new roles would in fact be closer to 600, but that this would be happening in conjunction with its normal recruitment drive to replace those who have left or require cover.

"Santander is currently recruiting up to 600 staff to new roles to meet business growth and to continue improving its service. These roles are in addition to its normal recruitment plans," the spokesperson said.
