''Opportunities expanding'' outside technology banking jobs in London

Technological positions within the UK's financial services industry are increasingly opening up away from the City, it has been claimed.

However, according to Paul Clarke, in an article for eFinancialCareers, many firms are likely to still approach those with technology jobs in banking in London for their expertise.

Traditionally, IT professionals working within the investment banking sector have looked to the capital for employment opportunities as the pay is frequently more attractive, he explained.

However, Mr Clarke added that there is an argument for such roles being moved to a "more provincial" part of the country, due to the amount of development that has taken place in this area of the industry over recent years.

He explained that some firms may now be looking to other locations such as Belfast, Dublin and Glasgow for value.

"Nonetheless, firms are keen to attract tech talent from the City if they possibly can," Mr Clarke said.

Elsewhere, HSBC recently revealed it hopes to increase the number of jobs it has on offer in Northern Ireland, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
