Are over-50s having trouble finding finance jobs in London?
The number of older Britons stuck in long-term unemployment has reached a ten-year high, according to new figures.
While experienced people looking for
finance jobs in London may have the skills employers are looking for, research by Age UK has revealed that in the last year, the number of over-50s trapped in this position has risen by 50 per cent.
In addition, two out of every five unemployed workers in this age bracket have been out if a job for more than 12 months.
Male workers were found to be the worst affected, but the problem is becoming an increasing issue among older females as well, the charity warned.
Michelle Mitchell, Age UK director, said: "This is the highest level of long-term unemployment among over-50s that we have seen in a decade and brings back the spectre of the last two recessions which left a devastating legacy of unemployment among people in later life."
Elsewhere, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has revealed that there are now further fears of a slowdown in the jobs market.
