Brits with risk jobs in London have right to train

The government is reviewing a scheme that allows Britons at some firms the right to have time off to further their skills.

Those with risk jobs in London may have appreciated the scheme, introduced in April, which allows them to request time off if they work for a company that employs 250 people or more.

However, a consultation is now underway as the government looks to reduce the burden on businesses, with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills claiming it hopes to gather opinions from those affected by the scheme.

It is now asking employees, employers and any other interested parties to share their views.

Further education, skills and lifelong learning minister John Hayes said: "We believe it is important that all regulations are properly scrutinised and we are therefore interested in hearing views on the future of this right and its role in promoting training in the workplace, which I see as vital to our economic success."

Elsewhere, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has claimed that an increase in the number of people working part-time may highlight a forthcoming slowdown in employment levels.
