Age ''should not matter'' at finance jobs in London
Organisations should not discriminate against people because of their age, it has been claimed.
Rachel Krys, campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age, said some companies recruiting for
finance jobs in London make the mistake of creating a team of "identikit people".
However, this may not the strongest option for companies with
finance jobs in London to take, she explained.
Ms Krys thinks many 50 or 60-year-old people are well-qualified for positions but do not get past the initial shortlist of candidates.
"Although age discrimination legislation has gone quite a long way to combating it, I think unspoken age discrimination is still happening a lot," she commented.
Ms Krys continued by stating that although ageism is decreasing in some sectors, there are others where it is still a problem.
Earlier this month, the Department of Communities and Local Government revealed that in 2009-10, the most common form of prejudice experienced in the labour market was age discrimination.
