Do people with banking jobs in Hong Kong find it hard to switch off?

The summer may be an opportune time for employees at financial services providers to take some time away from the office and relax in order to return to work feeling refreshed.

However, people with banking jobs in Hong Kong - particularly those in managerial positions - may be finding it hard to switch off from their professional commitments.

According to research from the Institute of Leadership & Management, technology is making it increasingly easy for individuals to keep abreast of what is happening in the office.

It revealed that in a recent survey of managers, one in three worked while they were on leave, carrying out tasks such as responding to emails or taking calls.

As a result, many people are returning to work feeling more stressed than when they left.

Chief executive Penny de Valk said: "Gone are the days when people cut off contact with work for a fortnight over the summer and made a complete break."

Elsewhere, Claire McCartney, resourcing and talent planning adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, recently claimed that during this time of austerity, employees are likely to appreciate honesty from their managers.
