Could finance jobs be made easier for small businesses?

This week, the Treasury has announced its decision to simplify the UK''s existing tax code by unravelling the "spaghetti bowl" of legislation.

George Osborne announced the establishment of the Office for Tax Simplification - a centre that will be responsible for tax relief and small business tax simplification, in news that may interest those with finance jobs in London.

Andrew Hubbard, immediate past president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, welcomed the news, saying that under the current system, small enterprise owners are spending a "disproportionate" amount of their time working out how the tax system affects them.

"At the small business level there has been a lot of quite complex rules that have changed year-on-year and it has become a very unstable system as there are lots of anomalies in the system," he added.

Mr Hubbard explained that an environment of stability needed to be created so that anyone establishing their own business would know what tax regulation they would need over the forthcoming years.
