Will women with banking jobs welcome news on transparency?

Many women are likely to welcome the news that legislation surrounding pay secrecy will be lifted in October as part of the Equality Act.

Indeed, ladies looking for banking jobs in London may feel that the news could help them to break through the glass ceiling of any workplace they come to, with Kate Grussing, spokesperson for the City Women''s Network and the co-founder and managing director of Sapphire Partners, saying the reports can only be a good thing.

However, on the subject of introducing quotas to tackle gender imbalances on boards of directors, which the European Commission announced it was considering, she noted that females are likely to be divided.

This is because no employee will wish to feel that they only got offered the opportunity to join the board in order to make up a quota requirement, she explained.

"Our members are divided on quotas and what we need to focus on is greater transparency of how the board appointments are made so that women are on the shortlist where they deserve to be," Ms Grussing claimed.
