What to say at interviews for banking jobs in Hong Kong

Going for a job interview can be a stressful experience and investment banking assessments can be particularly difficult as the questions are so varied, it has been claimed.

However, Sarah Butcher, in an article for eFinancialCareers, offers some advice for people preparing to interview for banking jobs in Hong Kong or elsewhere, telling them to be careful not to come across as gushing.

Rather than talking about how much they love the company, she advises being specific by focussing on particular points of interest in the job description.

Ms Butcher also recommends avoiding speaking too negatively about current employers, but to instead concentrate on what about the new job has caused them to think about leaving their current one.

Mentioning money should also be avoided, with employers more likely to be impressed if the positive challenges of the job itself appear to be the draw.

The Financial Times recently reported that the training sector is seeing a resurgence in demand as the world begins to come out of the economic downturn, with interest particularly high in Hong Kong.
