Finance: Capital Markets: Head of Financial Control, Asia
Our financial services team had previously carried out search assignments for a global bank based in Asia, and successfully placed the regional CFO and regional Head of Product Control. Following this achievement, we were subsequently retained to source the regional Head of Financial Control.
Experience of the Asian market informed us that financial services skills are often difficult to recruit locally. The region hosts a large ex-pat community from the UK, the US and Australasia, members of which typically remain in the area for no more than two to four years. Far from looking to adopt a new assignment in the region, potential candidates are often keen to return home.
Astbury Marsden was able to broaden the search to encompass the U.K. and the U.S. markets. We constructed a list of ten global target organizations whose business paralleled that of our client and then targeted individuals in these markets who had the potential to meet the demands of this position.
After seven weeks we were able to produce a short list of five candidates, including one in the U.K., one in the U.S. and three in Asia.
Our client selected the U.K. candidate. Having worked in Asia previously, and with family in New Zealand, the position represented both a promotion and an opportunity for him to move closer to home. It is indicative of his success that several months after assuming the new role his responsibilities were considerably expanded.
