Finance: Capital Markets: Technical Accountant, Derivatives

Due to our expertise and track record at sourcing unique technical skill sets within Investment Banking, a European investment bank retained us to search for a candidate with an in depth understanding of structuring complex derivative products with an emphasis on the technicalities of International Accounting Standards and US GAAP. These individuals are difficult to source anywhere but being a European investment bank that required the individual to be based in New York, where their presence is significantly overshadowed by the major US houses, they expected the search to be an arduous and expensive task.

Having an enviable network within this niche market, Astbury Marsden was able to search globally for the role. We created a long list of candidates in New York and London and set about meeting all relevant candidates in person. One consultant travelled to New York to meet the relevant candidates and work through any objections around moving from a US to a European house and another focussed on London where the relevant candidates had to be convinced to relocate to New York.

The search resulted in a short list of five candidates being presented and the successful candidate for the role being sourced from the number one structured Derivatives organisation in the US. In addition to this, one of the candidates who had interviewed in London joined the bank in a similar newly created role which was based in London.

This organisation and team has since won industry awards and is considered to be the market leader in its field.
