M&A: Investment Bank: Vice President, Nordics

A top tier US investment bank approached us to conduct a difficult search to find a VP2 within Nordic M&A. They were not a market leading player in this space but were keen to add a good deal of strength as they had recently secured a new MD for one of their Nordic offices.

The search was difficult as the client wanted us to map and target the top 5 Nordic houses and lure talent from them who would remain London-based to help build the UK franchise. We had placed a number of Nordic focussed bankers in the past so we had a good deal of experience within the sector and were therefore able to quickly map the top 5 banks and beyond. After extensive research, we had presented a short list of four great candidates.

One candidate stood head and shoulders above the others and became the main target. Unfortunately he was engaged in an interview process with another organisation so the process was not straightforward. However, with Astbury Marsden working very closely with the client and prospective candidate we were able to identify the key drivers for the candidate to make the move and align them closely with our client's opportunity. The candidate subsequently accepted and was a top ranked performer in his first year.
